On October 1, 2024, the Viola High School Beta Club attended the Arkansas Regional Leadership Summit in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Representing the school were three senior Beta Club officers and all six members of the Junior Beta Club. During the summit, the Junior Beta members successfully qualified for the National Beta Convention, although they ultimately did not attend the event. The summit provided valuable leadership training and team-building experiences for all students involved.

On Monday, December 9, 2024, the Viola Beta Club successfully hosted its second Longhorn Innovation Day, a full-day service project designed to engage and inspire youth in the community. Aimed at students in grades 3 through 6, the event focused on teaching the core pillars of the National Beta Club—leadership, service, and character—through fun, interactive, and age-appropriate activities.
With an attendance of approximately 60 participants, including 15 dedicated Beta Club volunteers, the day was filled with energy and excitement. Throughout the camp, students rotated through a variety of engaging workshops, including a community service project, a challenging escape room, a creative arts and crafts station, and high-energy pep rally games that reinforced teamwork and enthusiasm. The event ran from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and was made even more enjoyable thanks to North Arkansas Spray Foam, LLC in Viola, who generously provided snacks and lunch for all attendees and volunteers. Longhorn Innovation Day once again proved to be a meaningful and memorable way for the Beta Club to serve its community, promote positive values in younger students, and demonstrate the spirit of Beta in action. The event was very similar to last years Longhorn Innovation Day

A cherished annual tradition for the Viola Beta Club, the Santa Letters project took place once again in December 2024. As part of this festive service initiative, several Beta members acted as "Santa’s helpers," writing personalized letters to students in kindergarten through 2nd grade at Viola Elementary. Planning for the project began during Longhorn Innovation Day on December 2, when members met with sponsor Mrs. Guffey to organize how the letters would be created and delivered. On December 5, elementary students received a special letter from “Santa” asking them what they hoped to receive for Christmas. Once the responses were returned to the high school, Beta members carefully crafted personalized replies, complete with decorated envelopes designed to look as if they had come straight from the North Pole. The letters were sent out on December 18, and the project officially wrapped up on December 19. As in previous years, the Santa Letters project was a heartwarming success, spreading holiday cheer to young students while allowing Beta members to serve their community in a meaningful and creative way.

Viola Beta Club // January 31, 2024
On January 1, 2024, members of Viola Beta Club started preparing for their entry into the Arkansas State Convention's Living Literature competition. Members were tasked to choose a scene from a book and implicate it into real life-- like a movie set. Viola Beta Club chose a scene from Cornelia Funke's 2003 novel Inkheart. The scene depicted he character "Tinkerbell" coming out of the book Peter Pan while an older gentleman "Fenoglio" and a young girl "Meggie" were trapped in a bedroom located in a dungeon. Viola Beta members took charge of the project and work began immediately. From January 2, 2024, to January 12, 2024 - a period of ten days - a 'real-life movie set - was created. This project's planning phase is well known for the number of disruptions it had. Due to winter weather, and school cancellations, Beta members along with sponsor Mrs. Guffey, had to go up to school several times throughout evenings and a weekend to ensure the project was going smoothly. On January 11th, the project took a massive turn. After significant time and planning, Viola Beta members made the decision to completely change the set-- replacing the old drapers for new ones, replacing the wallpaper, and replacing the layout of the set. This was all done in two days but required hours of time and effort. Unfortunately, due to more incoming winter weather, Arkansas State Convention was postponed a week. Viola Beta eventually was able to present the set at Arkansas State Convention on January 31, 2024. Hunter Belvedresi and Nikki Miller acted in the competition, with the help of member Ciera Luckenbach, who designed and "imagined" the set.

During the months of February and March of 2024, lasting until June, Viola Beta Club members Hunter Belvedresi, Kira Duncan, Ryleigh Golden, and Abby Hutson worked together to create a website and an online store as a fundraiser for the upcoming National Convention. This store primarily focused on the selling of trading pins taken from an entry of the Arkansas State Convention. A lot was gained from this project, especially the establishment of the Viola Beta Club website and a new financial platform for future fundraisers. In addition, this project explored the boundaries of project management-- exploring programs like Google Classroom to manage other projects easily.

Viola Beta Club - Statement // March 8, 2024
On March 8, 2024, several members of Viola Beta Club participated in a project for National Beta’s ‘Beta Week’. This project was in the form of a potluck for all the staff of Viola High School for lunch. In the days leading up to the potluck, members purchased supplies for a taco bar– a Viola Beta favorite! The day of, several members worked around-the-clock to prepare the teacher’s lounge for lunch. Lunch came and went– and everything had been eaten. After the potluck, several members and sponsor Mrs. Guffey received multiple compliments regarding the lunch. Later in the day, one teacher told Mrs. Guffey, “This is the best meal ever provided to teachers [at Viola].” Viola Beta plans to use this project more– especially during Beta Week.

Ash Flat Nursing and Rehab // April 15, 2024
On Monday, April 15, 2024, six members of the Viola Senior Beta Club made the journey to nearby Ash Flat, Arkansas to visit an assisted living facility. The journey is most notable for a guest that tagged along: a young goat, brought by member Kara Moore. During the time at the facility, members interacted with the patients and brought the goat on a tour. In the afternoon, the members played “Monday Bingo” with the patients. The facility, Ash Flat Nursing and Rehab Center, published an article regarding this event. They wrote in the article, “These awesome students from our neighboring town of Viola, Arkansas, brought us a goat, but we think THEY are the real G.O.A.T. (a.k.a. Greatest Of All Time) for being such a kind and thoughtful group. We enjoyed every moment of this fun afternoon, and we can’t wait for our young friends (and kid) to come see us again!” This project was deemed a success and heartwarming for those who attended. In the future, Viola Beta Club plans to promote this as a way to interact with the community.

Viola Beta Club // May 18, 2024
From February to June 2024, particularly in the months of May and June, several Viola High School Beta Club members (plus our sponsor) established several projects and 'shops' to fundraise for National Convention. During this period, two 'shops' (the Viola Trading Pin Online Store and Viola Beta Creations) were set up. In addition to that, several projects were put in place: a trivia night, dunk tank, concession stand, and more. All of these benefited six students, one sponsor, two chaperones, and two family members to attend the 2024 Beta National Convention in Savannah, Georgia in June.

Viola Beta Club // May 30, 2024
In the early morning hours of May 26, 2024, a large and destructive EF-3 tornado tore through portions of several nearby communities, killing one. With the Riverside Church of Christ, three members of Viola Beta, along with sponsor Mrs. Guffey, spent two afternoons in the areas that were hit the hardest. Here, they made and prepared meals to give out to those who were suffering. This was a great experience for the members, showing how the community comes together in times of need.
